Welcome to the fifth grade rainforest website! You can check out cool plants and animals.
This is how our rainforest study began. First, we started reading this book called The Most Beautiful Roof in the World, by Kathryn Lasky. The book is about Meg Lowman, who is a rainforest scientist who traveled around the world to different rainforests. Then we started getting interested in the different things she studied. So then our teacher came up with a great idea to create a fifth grade rainforest website. Finally, each one of us chose a plant or animal we were interested in and researched it.
Do you have any idea how long this took? It didn't just fall from the sky! Research is hard work! First, we took different information from books, websites, videos, articles, interviews with each other, and pictures. Then, we took notes and organized them into different topics. Our topics were description, behavior, habitat, life cycle, predators, and prey. After that, we had to get some lined paper and put our notes into complete sentences. This is called our draft.
Now that we were done with our drafts, we had to do a...second draft! Crazy right? Revising and editing time! We did peer revising. Peer revising is going over your work with a partner making sure that you didn't forget anything and that nothing is in the wrong place. Then, we had to peer edit our work. Editing is just going through all the work you did and correcting it. For example, we had to go through the grammar, spelling, punctuation, commas in the right place, apostrophes used correctly, capitalization and complete sentences. Our favorite part of revising and editing is sharing all the great work we did.
OMG! Am I dreaming or are we on our final draft? Wow! I can't believe it! Anyway, final drafts are when we copy our second draft onto our final. Once we were done copying our draft onto our final we were ready to...type! We also drew drawings of our plant or animal and they turned out to be great! Finally, we chose photographs for our pages and put on all the finishing touches.
Now we can admire our awesome work and we can see it anytime we want! Now you can see how long this took and that we worked really hard on it!
