Jaguar

Colorful Patterns
Imagine many black spots shaped like roses on orange fur. Did you know that that would be a picture of a jaguar?? A jaguar has mostly black and some yellow spots too. Some jaguars are black with black spots. I never knew that, I bet that you didn’t either.
Do you want to know a kind of scary part?! They can open their mouths very wide and their jaws are so strong (it’s so powerful) that they can eat their prey in one BIG bite. The prey are the other animals or plants that the jaguar eats. I used to think jaguars are really scary before because of the way their mouth would open, but they’re not really.
Also, the jaguar has huge eyes that glow in the dark like a nightlight! Their eye color ranges from golden to reddish yellow and sometimes the baby cubs have blue eyes.
Now you have learned a lot of facts about the jaguar so go show off!!!
Changes Through Time
Hey reader, now you are going to learn about the jaguar’s life-cycle. Jaguars can breed in any season and they mate at different times of the year, mate means like when a male and female jaguar reproduce, or make babies.
Once the jaguars mate, the male and female jaguar stay together during the 100-day pregnancy. Then the female jaguar gives birth to between to 1-4 cubs. It might sound really gross, but deal with it!! It’s the creation of life!
When the cubs are born the female jaguar makes the male leave so she can protect her babies. The cubs are born blind and start to see after about 2 weeks. After about 6 months they learn to hunt and stay with their mothers for around two years. Then, the jaguars are on their own to start their own lives. Most jaguars live for around 12-16 years.
Now that you know about the jaguar’s life cycle, don’t you feel confident?
Nice Home
“Eu amo o Jaguar!” What I’m saying is I love the Jaguar! The reason I’m saying it in Portuguese is because the Jaguar is indigenous to the western hemisphere, in Central and South America. Indigenous means like where you’re from. One of the jaguar’s habitats are in South America, where some people speak Portuguese.
Something you should know is that jaguars live in warm tropical areas and can have a lot of different rainforest habitats. Try to imagine a really hot and sunny place that you really love. That’s where the jaguar likes to be. Jaguars live in rainforests, wet lowland areas, and swampy grasslands near rivers or lakes. Jaguars in the USA are found in Texas and in Arizona’s Cerro Colorado Mountains. Those are some places where the jaguar’s habitats can be.
Jaguars are solitary which means they like to live ALONE! The jaguar is also territorial, which means it is protective of its habitat.
Now you know about the jaguar’s habitat. You probably know more facts about the habitat of the jaguar than your friends!!!!
Poor Jaguars
Hola Amigos, Hi friends, so now I’m going to tell you some facts about prey. Prey means the animals that another animal eats. Jaguars can be classified as crepuscular, which means they hunt at dawn and dusk. Jaguars hunt for prey both in water and from in the trees. The jaguars pounce on their prey from a hiding place! From the trees the jaguar can easily ambush its prey. Ambush is like to attack surprisingly. The rivers provide prey in the form or fish, turtles, or caimans (a type of crocodile) for the jaguar.
Because of the strength of the jaguar they have no predators other than humans!!! Can you believe it? Humans! And we are humans. Ok now it’s time for the jaguars to panic! Humans have been hunting for the jaguars in South America. Humans hunting for jaguars have led to drastic declines in jaguar population numbers everywhere. Drastic means extreme and harsh.
Those are some facts about predators and prey. Hope you had fun learning and have a favorite part!!
