Morpho Butterfly

Picture in Your Head
Do you like butterflies? If you do, then you chose the right webpage. Now time to share my facts. The morpho butterfly is cool! Did you know when they get wings it goes up to 5 to 8 inches wide? Also, its head is really small (smaller than a pencil's eraser) and its life span (how long it lives) is 115 days.
Now let’s get to the parts. I like this part of the butterfly. Did you know that morpho butterflies have a mouth part called proboscis? It’s like a straw when they use this because when they are in a stage of becoming an adult they can’t chew anymore, but they have the proboscis to drink their food. Fun fact- morpho butterflies drink mud, rotten fruit, fungus and more. Do you like your favorite food? Well you might think what the morpho butterfly eats is gross, but it tastes great for them.
Did you know a morpho butterfly can camouflage? It's also very pretty! IT IS NOT BLUE, it's actually brown, but the sunlight reflects off of it and its millions of tiny butterfly bones all
make it look blue, but it's brown on the inside. The morpho butterfly is one of the most beautiful butterflies in the world.
So, have you ever dreamed that you went outside and see blue bright wings? Well, it is really pretty if you have.
I Want To Live!
Hey! Thanks for scrolling down. The life cycle of the morpho butterfly starts like any other butterfly. The mama lays the eggs near leaves and then she leaves. Next, the baby caterpillar comes out and it eats all the time. Then, it pupates (makes itself a little hiding place so it can transform, or do metamorphosis). Metamorphosis is the changes that animals go through. After the pupa, it starts growing wings and changes into an adult morpho butterfly.
Not all butterflies can change to who ever they want. They get their DNA from their parents. So a morpho caterpillar turns into a morpho pupa and into a morpho butterfly.
So this is the life cycle! Scroll down for predators.
Predators Noooooo
AWWW predator! As you can see this is about predators and the morpho butterfly has a lot of predators! Most of the predators are birds. One of its biggest predators are..................HUMANS! Are you shocked? Well I was shocked the first time I learned that. Humans are predators because they try to catch morpho butterflies! Picture someone taking you. Well that’s how they feel. Humans try to catch them which can make them endangered. By the way endangered means almost extinct!
This is one way the morpho butterfly defends itself. It is so small it hides under leaves and flies away into trees.
Yummy in My Tummy!
Yum fruit! Oh hey! I was eating.
Morpho butterflies love to eat but the adults can’t chew! They drink using their proboscis (small mouth part). When morpho butterflies are baby caterpillars they chew leaves and they love mud. It’s so yummy. To them it tastes like soda and it is so good. They love to drink plants. They are so yummy. And did I say fruit? If I did I mean rotten fruit, like the fruit you drop on the ground.
So I hope you got a taste of what they eat.
This is the last page, I hope you liked (and enjoyed) my writing about morpho butterflies!
