I’m Looking for You!
Have you ever wondered where the passion flower lives? It lives in many places. It lives in South America to North America. Did you know that it’s often found in the Amazon rainforest which is in South America? Did you know that the passion flower also once lived in the Gardens of Aztec, which were for priests and kings? Well it did!
This flower likes to live in temperate climates which means not too hot and not too cold but, medium type of climate.
Now you know its habitat, in other words where it lives.
Life Cycle
Do you know the passion flower’s life cycle? Well, it starts out like a regular flower seed. Then, it germinates (sprouts) and then the roots are beginning to sprout. Next, a stem grows. After, leaves grow and then a bud pops up. The bud is the passion flower, but you have to wait until it opens. After that it turns into a flower and gets pollinated. Then the flower curls up. After that, a fruit grows and inside the fruit it has seeds.
Pollinators
Hey! Did you know that the passion flower has many pollinators? The pollinators are the carpenter bees, hummingbirds, bumble bees, wasps, and bats. Pollinators help the flower. For example a bumble bee comes and pollinates the flower by taking the pollen and bringing it to her hive or it carries it to another flower.
Predators
Hi, again! I am here to tell you about the passion flower predators. A predator is something that eats a plant or animal. The passion flower only has one predator. It is the Heliconid caterpillars. Can you believe that? Well I can!
Protectors
Do you know something weird? Ants are sometimes more like guards to protect the flower. If you are wondering what part of the flower do the ants guard or protect? Well, it is the passion flower vines. The ants protect the vine because the plant will provide special nectar so ants can eat it, and in return the ants pick off Heliconid caterpillars. Wow, what protectors!
